Reverse Racism & White Supremacy

Adam Smith published Wealth of Nations in 1776, an apt enough prologue for a certain declaration signed that very year.

Smith is the theorist who coined an immortal metaphor: the invisible hand

Does it matter that Smith was virulently racist?

Excerpts from The Wealth of Nations:

Such nations, however, are so miserably poor, that, from mere want, they are frequently reduced […] to the necessity sometimes of directly destroying, and sometimes of abandoning their infants, their old people, and those afflicted with lingering diseases, to perish with hunger, or to be devoured by wild beasts.

Among civilised and thriving nations, on the contrary […] the produce of the whole labour of the society is so great, that all are often abundantly supplied, and a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire…

The list grows quickly, including Turkey and Indostan. To these he adds ancient Egypt, “Mahometan” nations, the Arabs, Africa, the West Indies, Persia, Bengal, Siam, China, and North American indigenous peoples, who comprise “the lowest and rudest state of society”.

Savage peoples: the racism of Adam Smith in Wealth of Nations

In the end, the whole world apart from Europe is characterised as “savage” and “barbaric.”

The Judeo-Christian tradition is a Western European countenance, wearing Whiteface. Stephen Bannon is a racist with wide-ranging ambitions that extend anywhere that his countenance is tolerated. He is the spitting image of a certain conception of godliness, a favorite of White supremacists.

White supremacists flatter themselves as guardians of Western values. They are on a mission to make scriptural misunderstandings tools for geopolitical and racial advantage. The Judeo-Christian tradition is a conversation between Holy Land pilgrims who share a common disdain for Islam. Partners in arms against Muslims. The Church Militant.

The more eons that revered ancestors live under the cloud-laden lands of Europe, the more perfectly do they resemble the acceptable White features of the stereotyped Holy Family in the Holy Land that suffers under the “Mahometan…lowest and rudest state of society” — to couch the concept in Adam Smith typologies.

Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, will you know them by their love? I am told that many a citizen of Israel would welcome an exchange of Presidents. Perhaps they could take revolving terms in their respective States.

Is racism against Blacks unknown in Israel? Do Palestinian children on their way to school hear tut-tuts when Israeli soldiers aim assault rifles in the children’s faces? Are Palestinian school kids not snakes that grow into bigger snakes?

Judeo-Christians, will you know them by their loathe?

Let us now return to the wealth of nations. Do Black People have equal access to wealth-management systems? Are opportunities shmopportunities?

Disparities between the ultra rich and the ultra marginalized grow ever wider and ever deeper in the land of Freedom Oil and the home of the genocided Braves. Does racism matter?

Has “reverse racism” so crippled White American dreamers that Whites now scramble for the crumbs dropped by greedy and heartless “savage” and “barbaric” Blacks? Do hedge-fund managers from Black Wall Street refuse equal access to potential White investors? Why is Black Wall Street never more than a footnote, a remark that “mistakes were made” ?

“Of the 2,153 people who made it to the 2019 FORBES list of the World’s Billionaires, 13 of them are Black, up from 11 a year ago.” Forbes: March 5, 2019

Of course, capitalism knows no color bar

  1. Bill, I read this last night and I am only writing this because I wanted you to know that I had indeed, read this. However, I am so enraged by what those racists have said, including calling other people “savages” when there can be no greater “savage” than what has “savaged” ALL indigenous tribes ALL across the globe and it continues to this day. Why my head did not explode and propel itself into deep space, I don’t know because I am SO very tired of reading tripe from the most debased creatures on this godforsaken planet that they have managed to basically destroy ALL in the name of capitalism; wealth accumulation by any means necessary, even if it causes the total destruction of this planet which is exactly what it is doing. But yet those of us who have been deemed, “savage and barbaric” are not responsible for why we are in deep shit today.

Yet, I still thank you for posting this because it needs to be seen for its impact alone.

  2. I can empty a room faster than anyone I know. It’s what Tiggers do best. Or is it what Zieglers do best. A history of the White Peoples is not something you can trust with White persons, yet the same soundbites of history get parroted year-after-year and generation-after-generation. Whitewashing is very nearly autonomic now. Studying for the test keeps students ignorant for a lifetime, it’s also an efficient way to make yourself fit in with the drone. Racism is a powerful amnesia-inducing security blanket, scream-deadening earphones.

    1. I am SO sorry, but I had to smile when I read, “I can empty a room faster than anyone I know.” That, I certainly can believe because you are not out there ‘whitewashing’ the vile mess that has gone down and is continuing to go down. If you don’t ‘conform’, then you’re the problem. No, you’re the solution to the problem that no one who considers themselves to be ‘white’ wants to confront and deal with; the elephant in the room that ALL of them are hell bent on trying to ignore! Keep pounding them with the truth Bill and don’t ever let them steal your thunder. You’ve got the TRUTH on your side and not just some made up mess that makes whites feel good about what they have done and are still doing to others whom they feel are nothing more than “savages.”

If this post had been strictly about ‘animals’ being led to slaughter, you would not be able to keep up with the comments, but since many think more of animals, than they do about people who look like me “being led to slaughter,” then what’s the big deal? They don’t seem to get the fact that in order to give a damn about animals being bred for human consumption; capitalism, you must also give a damn about humans who are bred for ‘capitalism’s consumption and it all relates.

Black bodies; slaves are even now inside an ‘animal pen’, slaving away for capitalism, but that’s fine. They don’t see the correlation between those Black bodies and their so loved four legged sentient beings and what’s more, they never will.

Thanks again for posting this one Bill.

      1. Four years ago I published a post on this blog that remains one of the most frequently visited and it has served as a thread to connect my disparate topics together:
Kindness is rare, niceness is bare. Racism is about as nice as it gets, reverse-racism is a theme that belongs in a science fiction tale about alternative history that bears no resemblance to reality. What if the bubonic plague had wiped out the entire human population of Europe?
Climate catastrophe is not science fiction. Planet B *is* science fiction.

        1. Bill, I hope you don’t mind, but I re-blogged this one and it is my number one post today and it has only been up for a bout an hour.

And this comment is spot on! I am trying my best to re-direct folks right back here! You’ve said a mouthful.
          Thank you!

          1. Thank you so much for the reblog, Shelby. I am humbled to know that it is doing well, and I am doubly humbled to know that you are directing folks here 🙂
You may not be nice, but you sure are kind!

  3. This is just disgusting. I hate the term reverse racism. I certainly have no sociopolitical fiat to be a racist to anyone. The notion that any civilization outside of Europe would be “savage” is beyond insulting. Thanks for the article, Bill. Thank you for calling this stuff out.

    1. Reverse racism is a straw man, racism has always been the modus operandi of Western Civilization and Western Civilization is always told from a white-supremacist perspective, I prefer to call it Western Evilization for this reason — financed by stealing an incalculable amount of wealth and “human resources” stolen by whites who then take the credit for absolutely everything.

      1. THANK YOU! I’m so glad someone else knows how that term is such a straw man, too. “Western Evilization”? I’ll start using that term. Thanks. Yeah, it’s crazy with all the wealth built on the backs of the oppressed, taking the credit for everything with plagiarism or false patents.
